NFL Recap: Denver Edge Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a defensive struggle this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Defensive Display Seals Contest
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with approximately five minutes left.
Record Struggles for Jets Offense
Despite their dismal performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a opportunity to drive for a potential victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," the coach stated following the game.
