Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
