Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a life-threatening incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident occurred on the third lap when marshals were observed on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to replace his damaged front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I came out on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two individuals running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the situation

"Following a turn one incident, race control was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, safety personnel were alerted and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch personnel were canceled and a caution signal was displayed in that zone"
